Toyota Tacoma vs. Tundra: MPG, Size, Towing Capacity and More

toyota tundra vs toyota tacoma

When you are shopping for a truck, we at Miller Toyota in Manassas believe you shouldn’t condense your search down to just one option. You need to look at all the options presented to you. This is especially the case for Toyota’s lineup, which features not one but two great trucks which offer their own perks depending on what you are looking for: the 2015 Toyota Tacoma and the 2015 Toyota Tundra.

Toyota Tacoma: Truck of the Economical

The Tacoma is easily the better option if you are looking for economy and luxury rather than sheer force. Though it is somewhat lacking in the performance department due largely to its size—the Tacoma is a smaller truck with a smaller engine than the Tundra—it more than makes up for with associated price.

Fuel Economy

The Tacoma has a far superior fuel economy than the Tundra with a combined MPG of 18*. This superior fuel economy is made obvious when one looks at the massive difference of the highway MPG: the Tacoma has an incredible 21 MPG* next to the Tundra’s fairly typical 18. This, combined with a starting MSRP of $28,920—just over a $3500 difference between the two models—makes the Tacoma a cheaper vehicle than its larger counterpart.

Toyota Tundra: Truck of the Working Man

The Tundra, on the other hand, stresses superior performance than the Tacoma, making it the ideal truck for a driver expecting to make large hauls as well as private contractors. In other words, if you want a truck that can do the work, the Tundra is your best choice.

Performance and Size

The 2015 Tundra has a far greater towing capacity than the Tacoma. Able to haul a whopping 6500 pounds—the Tacoma can only haul 3500 pounds—the Tundra is a workhorse of a truck, giving you great versatility and a large amount of space. This also applies to the crew cab, which can seat six people comfortably 62.6 inches of rear hip room as well as 65.6 inches of shoulder room and 34.7 inches of leg room. This makes the Tundra a more spacious vehicle than the Tacoma.
