Toyota SUVs Offer the Best Combination of Efficiency and Space
Stop searching for the best combination of space and efficiency and turn to one of the Toyota hybrid SUVs. Cars.com recently determined which SUVs balance efficiency and space perfectly in a combination it declared “guilt-free.” The list of eight vehicles includes a tie in the first place by two Toyotas, showing the brand’s strength in this area.
The Requirements
To be considered for the list by Cars.com, a vehicle had to get at least 25 mpg* combined according to official EPA ratings and have 60 cubic feet or more for cargo. This meant that subcompact models didn’t have a large enough cargo area while large models weren’t efficient enough. The remaining models were ranked by a special formula to see which ones had the best balance of space and efficiency. The first place position was a tie between the 2016 Toyota Rav4 Hybrid and the 2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid, both of which are the hybrid variations of popular Toyota models.
Impressive Balance
If you want slightly more cargo room while driving a winner, then go for the Toyota Highlander Hybrid, which can give you up to 83.2 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. At the same time, it still manages to achieve 27 miles per gallon in the city, 28 on the highway, and 28 with combined driving. In fact, if you want an SUV with this much room that made this list, the Highlander Hybrid will be the only option. For a little less room, a still-impressive 70.6 cubic feet, go with the new 2016 Toyota Rav4. This model will give you 34 mpg* in the city, 31* on the highway, and 33* combined. Clearly, Toyota designers knew what they were doing when they added the Rav4 Hybrid to this year’s lineup.
