The Toyota Highlander Is a Top Safety Pick+
Keep your family safe when driving around Virginia thanks to the Toyota Highlander. This is one of the few vehicles to earn the prestigious IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. There are only two other midsize SUVs that earned this honor for 2016.
Top Safety Pick+ Strict Testing
The Toyota Highlander had already received the Top Safety Pick+ award in 2015, but that didn’t mean it was a given it would earn it for 2016. That is because the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety increased the requirements. In 2015, vehicles only needed to get an Acceptable rating for the small overlap front test. In 2016, they needed Good in each of the five areas of testing. Since the 2015 Highlander had earned an Acceptable in this particular category, you can rest assured that its ability to win the prestigious award in 2016 means that this area provides more protection than before.
To earn a Top Safety Pick+ award, the Highlander also received an Advanced score for its optional front crash prevention technology. Without this score, it would have only qualified as a Top Safety Pick.
How Toyota Achieved the Goal
Toyota knew that the Toyota Highlander was safe but could be better. Designers and engineers made it their goal to earn the top Good rating for the small overlap front test. To do this, they made structural modifications to the Highlander, helping improve performance as well as safety. The testing showed that the dummy was controlled better with its head hitting the front airbag. This is compared to last year, when the dummy’s head slid off the airbag.
Now you know that the 2016 Toyota Highlander is one of the safest vehicles in your class, it makes perfect sense to buy this midsize crossover SUV. Visit Miller Toyota in Manassas, Virginia, to configure your family-friendly vehicle today.
