Serve Others This Thanksgiving at a Community Dinner
This Thanksgiving, take some time to give back to the community. With a little bit of effort on your part, you can make sure that others in Manassas have something to be thankful for as well as a filling meal to celebrate the holiday. The Good News Community Kitchen will be hosting Thanksgiving Dinner in Manassas for those who need it and is looking for volunteers.
The Week Before Thanksgiving
The Thanksgiving Dinner in Manassas will be the week before the actual holiday, making it easier for volunteers to donate their time. It will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The dinner will be at Jirani Coffee House at 9425 West Street, right here in Manassas.
RSVP if You Need a Warm Meal
If your family needs a warm Thanksgiving meal, then contact The Good News Family Kitchen. It will be able to accommodate 50 families and/or individuals, but you need to RSVP so the organization can get a headcount.
Volunteer to Serve
For those who know they will have a Thanksgiving meal, you can volunteer your time. Volunteers will greet those who come to enjoy a community Thanksgiving meal with their families and will also help serve the food. With your help, the event can go seamlessly. You can send an email or call to sign up to volunteer. The coordinators prefer you sign up as soon as possible so they can start organizing everything.
Can’t Volunteer? Donate Items
There is more than one way to help with this community dinner. If you can’t volunteer on the day of the event, consider donating some of the necessary supplies. Just contact the volunteer coordinator to confirm what they need and where to bring it. Just some suggested items include soup, plastic utensils, drinks, desserts, and side dishes, including carbs and vegetables.
Volunteer Other Times of the Year
The Good News Community Kitchen helps Manassas residents year-round, although Thanksgiving Dinner in Manassas is one of its bigger events. Throughout the year, the organization focuses on four core programs: Warm Winters, Trends to Transition, Hygiene Heroes, and Mobile Meals. They give out emergency meals as well as Meal 2 Go Kits for kids who go hungry when not in school. They also provide blankets and outerwear along with school supplies. Other services include women’s empowerment sessions and resume writing workshops geared toward veterans. Any time of the year, you can help these programs out via a donation or by volunteering. You can work directly with the community or help organize and run one of the many fundraising events.
