2014 Corolla LE vs S

The 2014 Toyota Corolla is a new version of a tried and true Toyota classic. When you decide to purchase the 2014 model, you will be able to choose from several different trim levels, including the S, L, LE, and LE Eco. There are also Plus and Premium options for the LE Eco.

At first glance, there don’t seem to be a great deal of differences between the Corolla LE and the Corolla S, and that is because they are simply different trims of the same make and model. You will notice a very slight difference in price corresponding to the varying features, but the main difference is simply in appearance.

Similarities

Both the 2014 Toyota Corolla LE and the S are compact sedans that seat five passengers and have four doors. They come standard with the same 1.8-liter gas four-cylinder engine and have a continuously variable transmission. Both trims also have the exact same interior dimensions with 38.3 inches of headroom in the front and 37.1 inches in the rear. Legroom on each trim is 42.3 inches in the front and 41.4 in the rear, making either option roomier than most other midsized sedans. Even the cargo capacity for the Corolla LE and S is the same at 13 cubic feet.                                          

Mileage

In terms of gas mileage, the Corolla LE does slightly better. While both the LE and S get 29 miles per gallon in the city, the S only gets about 37 on the highway compared with the LE’s 38. While this may seem like a small difference, it becomes more noticeable when you look at each car’s overall mile range. The cars have the same storage capacity for gas and a range of 383 miles in the city. However, the Toyota Corolla LE does better on the highway with 502 miles compared with the 488 miles of the S.

Features

Although the 2014 Toyota Corolla LE comes out slightly ahead of the S in terms of mileage, the S has a few more features. For the most part, the two trim options are neck and neck with one-touch windows, voice recognition, USB connection for the iPod, rearview camera, keyless entry, cruise control, and Bluetooth, among other features. The same is true of safety features, as both have active head restraints, stability control, child seat anchors, side/curtain airbags, heated exterior mirrors, and several other features. The main difference in safety features is that the 2014 Corolla S has front fog lights and the LE does not. In terms of performance features, both trims have configurable driver modes, but the S has the addition of paddle shifters.

With such minor differences between the 2014 Toyota Corolla LE and S, it can be hard to choose which one to go with, especially since one trim does slightly better in terms of mileage while the other has a few extra features.
